Chris Lilley And Summer Heights High

Can an actor receive three Emmy nominations for the same show? If so, Chris Lilley should be receiving them for SUMMER HEIGHTS HIGH.SUMMER HEIGHTS HIGH is a new HBO series. It previously aired in Australia. The premise is a mockumentary about a high school, focusing on three characters. There is Mr. G., the drama teacher. Ja’mie, a stuck up girl just transferred in from private school. And Jonah, who can’t read and is constantly in trouble with teachers. What makes it so interesting is that all three characters are convincingly played by the same actor, Chris Lilley. This isn’t some sort of stunt show, like say Tracey Ullman. It isn’t just playing dress up, putting on wigs and cross dressing. These are three, very distinct, very different, very believable and most importantly, very funny characters. Last night’s episode had a student at the school die of a drug overdose. Mr. G. decides to use this for his own personal gain. He plans on writing a musical about the girl to stage at the school, complete with songs about her drug use, anorexia and how she was a slut. Chris Lilley is a big star back in Australia. Why are we only now hearing about him? And why isn’t this show on the front of Entertainment Weekly? He is that big of a talent. If you haven’t tuned in (and I can’t blame you for not knowing about it) do not miss this series.SUMMER HEIGHTS HIGH airs Sunday nights at 10:30 PM EST on HBO.
